What do you think of these links?

There is information out there on intimate relationship abuse; but what do you think of it? Do these sites help people to identify abuse? Do they educate people about the abuse that can occur in relationships? Do they help you decide what to do if you are in an abusive relationship? Do they let you know where you can find more help? Which ones are most helpful?

Who can help young people in your area?

Young people in LYC Sex and Relationship Education campaign group would like to hear from you. They are trying to find out what support there is in your area for young people who experience physical violence or controlling behaviour in their relationships.

Tell us the people who can help.

They are also looking at online help. Tell us which sites are useful and which less so.

For now, we are giving people aliases – don’t tell us your real names when you post. We have discussed this  at the young people’s advisory group meeting and think it is best that people don’t leave a name or just give a first name – let us know what you think.

What is abuse?

It’s not always clear that abuse is happening and it’s easy to pretend it isn’t by concentrating just on the ‘good’ aspects of a relationship. We thought it would be good to ask some direct questions about relationships to see if things are going wrong.

                                              STOP! THINK!

Here are some of our ideas about the questions you can ask yourself to work out whether abuse is happening:

  • Does your partner go through your phone contacts?
  • Do they constantly want to know who you are calling?
  • Does your partner read your messages?
  • Are they always checking up on you?
  • Does your partner want to know exactly what you are doing, when and at what time?
  • Do you argue a lot?
  • If so is this arguing a) violent? b) abusive? c) normal?
  • Does your partner try to make your decisions for you?
  • Does your partner try to make decisions about your children?

                             IS THIS ABUSE?
